I have just completed day two with the iMate Ultimate 9502 and I am officially bored with the device. It basically comes across as a duplicate of my HTC TyTN 2 which sadly has more battery life and more OS stability. A part of me is somewhat bothered that I didn't take heed to a previous blogpost that warned against getting the 9502, but I was curious about what this model had to offer since it was so strongly anticipated since late 2007. Unfortunately it seems that everything about the 9502 except for its VGA resolution should have been left behind in 2007 because it doesn't fit at all in 2008! Amidst many manufacturers attempting to minimize the bulk of their smartphone offerings, iMate didn't make a wise choice in releasing the 9502...at least not in this day in age.
The bulk of this thing rivals that of the E90, but that's not the primary reason for my dissatisfaction with it. Unstable performance with Opera Mobile 8.65 and low call volume really doesn't make the 9502 worth my while. Despite the amazing VGA resolution there is no justification that I can make in keeping this phone since it is already matched by my TyTN 2 device. Everything that this model has in regards to features is by no means innovative or class-leading. After testing the 9502 I find that it is indeed not worth the $850 that I paid for it.
Looks like I shall resume using my Nokia E90 for now in anticpation for the Sony Ericsson Xperia, new iPhone and even the Nokia E71.

Trent,
Is the imate 9502 a CDMA phone or GSM? Also, I noted that you use AT&T as your cell phone provider for your other phones. I purchased the iphone earlier this year and naturally am using ATT, but I find the service poor to just barely satisfactory. I had much better service with Sprint (CDMA). I never had dropped calls with them (unless I was speaking with someone on ATT). How is the ATT service where you live?
I used to live in Norfolk when I was a kid. My father was stationed there. I went to Ocean View Elementary which I believe is still there. I am a Navy brat.

The 9502 is GSM. AT&T's service is not the best, but it's better than TMobile as far as GSM is concerned. Verizon is the best but is CDMA only and doesn't offer the ability to switch between unlocked phones.
It's very neat to see that you are from Norfolk as well!
